London Paralympics Test Event Tickets

This Paralympic Test Event is being held at Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich as part of the London Prepares series on Saturday 5 May and Sunday 6 May.

Archery GB has been allocated 90 tickets for its member on each day.

Members can obtain free tickets for themselves, their friends and family using this form It should be returned to Membership Services together with a stamp addressed DL (22cm by 11cm) envelope (SAE).

Please note that the tickets will be in the form of wristbands. More

Archery GB Wristband

Archery GB is seeking your help on the design for an official Archery GB wristband.

The wristbands are to be worn to show our support for the Archery GB Olympic and Paralympic team members and we thought who better to decide the final design than the people who will be wearing the wristbands.

Members' Charter and Service Standards

Archery GB is committed to continuously improving its customer service to its members.

Accordingly we have developed a Member Charter which highlights our commitment to you and what you can expect from Archery GB.

We have also developed Service Standards which sets out how our members will be treated when they contact us and the minimum standards they may expect to receive.

Personal Performance Courses

Recurve, compound and longbow disciplines are covered and the course content mixes practical coaching with seminars. The course helps you achieve your full potential as an archer, covering everything from equipment and tuning to training schedules, physiology and psychology.

Foresters Friendly Society update

As official sponsors of Archery GB, Foresters Friendly Society ran a competition for 12 members to spend a day at the National Sports Centre at Lilleshall to try their hand at Archery, alongside some of the best archers in the world.

During the day they had the opportunity to see some of the Elite Archers such as Amy Oliver, Sean Evans, Andrew Randall and Becky Martin shooting, who were all putting in the hours to prepare for the 2012 selections.

Amy joined the Foresters competition winners for lunch with Olympic Coach Lloyd Brown which gave a great opportunity to ask questions of the team before they were taught the techniques of using a bow and arrow. Tim Hazell, Paralympic Coach was also on hand to coach some of the lucky Foresters members!

Neil Armitage, Marketing Director at Foresters commented, “This taster day provided members a terrific opportunity to try out the sport first hand. Teaming up with Archery GB is a great partnership for Foresters given our brand and its historic links to the master archers Robin Hood and Little John!"

Archery Big Weekend

Archery GB is organising an Archery Big Weekend on 25, 26 and 27 August - and we want your club or organisation to be part of it!

The national campaign, which has been organised to celebrate this year's Olympic and Paralympic Games, will see archery open days running across the whole country, welcoming members of the public to come and experience archery.

This is set to be a great weekend for archery, with the Archery Big Weekend to the National Series Final, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Performance Coach CPD Opportunity

Archery GB Performance is pleased to invite all coaches working with young people under the age of 20 years in Great Britain (any level) to express interest for participating in two three-part pilot Performance Coach CPD Opportunities.

Run over three full weekends, Autumn/Winter 2012/2013 at Lilleshall National Sport Centre, coaches will be offered education on Technical Coaching from Olympic Coach Lloyd Brown.

Added to this, some key insights from English Institute of Sport lead practitioners and other staff who work within our World Class Performance Programme and you will improve your understanding of Performance Coaching theory and practice. More

Outdoor shooting programme announced

We are pleased to announce details of the outdoor shooting programme for this year.

Along with the regular practice nights (all of which are designated as target days), we are setting aside the last Saturday of the month to shoot a specific round (details in the events calendar).

Here's the summary

Apr 28th: Warwick & Junior Warwick

May 26th: National & Junior National

Jun 30th: National & Junior National

Jul 28th: Long Metric III & IV

Aug 25th: Short Metric II & III

Sep 29th: End of season handicap shoot (Western rounds)

Scores from these rounds (and scores from other rounds shot on target days (basically any other club day)) can be submitted to records@netherhall-archers.org to generate the handicap needed for the end of season shoot in September. If you have any questions about rounds or handicaps, don't hesitate to ask one of the committee who will be happy to explain things to you.

Novices & seasoned archers celebrate success

A double celebration was held during the practice session on Saturday (14th) as Francois and Mary were congratulated by members of the club for their recent achievements.

Francois (pictured here with coach Philip Watson), who has recently returned to archery after a long absence from the sport, clearly has his sights set high as he shot a fabulous score of 126 to easily pass the requirements for the FITA White Arrow award. While Mary, one of our club coaches, shot a new personal best of 488 for the National round and qualified as Bowman 2nd Class.

Congratulations to both!

Rainy start to outdoor season doesn't dampen enthusiasm

The rain couldn't dampen the enthusiasm as the outdoor season got underway on Tuesday evening. With Bosses at distances ranging from 20yds-60yds most folks were taking the opportunity to update their sight-marks and check their wet weather gear was performing well!

Thankfully the weather for Thursday looks better so why not come on down and enjoy a little early evening practice.

Annual General Meeting Update

The AGM will be held on Saturday 28 April 2012 starting at 11 am. The venue will be at the University of East London in Stratford and there will be an opportunity for up to 90 members to tour the Olympic Park after the AGM in the afternoon.

Arthur Credland, who produced a history of Archery for the 150^thanniversary, and who is the newly appointed Archery GB’s official historian, will be present at the AGM.

Calling all members - we need your help!

Do you want to help influence into how British archery develops over the next few years? Then your sport needs you!

Sport England has invited us to apply for funding to help the sport develop from 2013 to 2017 – and we want to know how you think it should be spent. What do we need to do to help British archery grow? It doesn’t matter who you are - if you have an opinion, we want to know about it.

Think about where do we go from here? How do we get more people involved in archery? What can we do to develop potential? If you have any great ideas, we want to hear from you - and the closing date is 30 March, so there’s no time to waste.

Send your ideas and how you think they would work, along with your name and contact details to wholesportplan@archerygb.org

Check out the Current Plan here. It might give you some ideas, or at least act as a springboard. And remember, the deadline is 30 March.

Calling ambitious archers under 20

If you are under 20, love our sport and want to do what it takes to become an Olympian we want to hear from you!

Performance is hosting an open recruitment talent weekend at the Lilleshall National Sports & Conferencing Centre on 26/27 May 2012 and is looking ahead to unearth ‘precocious’ talent whether it be for Rio in 2016 or for the 2020 Olympic Games. The closing date to express your interest is 30 April 2012.

Archery GB’s Big Weekend!

Archery GB is celebrating London hosting the Games by organising 'Archery's Big Weekend' on 25 and 26 August 2012.

The "Archery Big Weekend" will see clubs and other archery providers from all over the country come together and open up their doors to host an archery open day for their local community.

As part of a nation-wide campaign to mark the Games, the event will enable members of the public to come along to their local venue and give archery a go.

Archery UK Magazine is online

This issue, we focus on our grass roots side of the sport, showing how archery is an inclusive sport. One of our main features is about Martin Hughes who has taken up archery after being seriously injured in a farming accident. His courage in the face of adversity is inspiring and to know that archery has helped him get through the toughest year of his life is also very humbling.

We also continue our quest to find our oldest archer. This time we feature Norman Perry who is 93 and Den Smith, a mere stripling at 91!

Our club profile this issue is Leicester Archery Academy which shows how archery has a strong connection with Islamic history and tradition.

Personal Performance Courses

Three-day Personal Performance courses are being held at the Lilleshall National Sports & Conferencing Centre. The next courses are being held from 27 – 30 April and 5 – 8 October. Accommodation and meals are included in the price.

Foresters Friendly Society has been the performance partner of Archery GB since 2010, but both our histories date back to the first half of the 19^thCentury.

Foresters, which is 10 years the senior of Archery GB, was founded back in 1834, and has weathered the same storms as Archery GB, including 2 World Wars and the Great Depression.

In fact our paths even crossed in 1972 when the Foresters President at the time, presented the Foresters Trophy at the European Field Archery Championship.

Reminder... End of season shoot 24th March

Just a quick reminder about the end of season shoot.

This year the end of season shoot will be held on the 24^th of March at our usual Saturday venue (Netherhall School).

We'll be shooting a Portsmouth round. Medals and certificates will be available in five different classes:-

Compound
Recurve (Snr.)
Recurve (Jnr.)
Longbow/Barebow
Novices (those who have been shooting for less than a year)

Everyone should be in with a chance of a medal and either way it should be a good social and the chance to get together as a whole club and enjoy a good morning's shooting so why not come along and have a bit of a giggle.

Club coaches @ SCAS Conference

Philip & Mary, two of our club coaches, spent a day out at the Southern Counties Archery Society (SCAS) coaches conference yesterday (3rd March) which was held at the RAF Musuem near Hendon in London.

Coaches from all over the southern counties region came to hear speakers deliver talks on a wide range of topics including sports psychology, the use of video analysis, the latest developments in strength and conditioning training and news from the national coaching committee.

The keynote speaker was Michael Peart a TeamGB member and a strong contender for a place in our Olympic squad. Michael kept everyone entertained with insights into what it's like to be a TeamGB member and the differences in coaching styles between coaches he's worked with in the recent past including some great stories about Lloyd Brown who was brought in following the 2008 Beijing Olympics to prepare TeamGB for this summers games in London.

Philip & Mary will be passing on the latest developments in archery coaching they've learned at the conference through the club coaching clinics so don't forget to sign up!

More FITA Arrow awards presented

Wednesday's club night saw three more members scoop their FITA Black Arrow award. Presented by club Chairman Chris Fernie, Sarah, Ken and Onel were quite rightly delighted with their achievement having only recently completed their beginners course with us.

They now have their sights firmly trained on the Blue Arrow award and another badge to add to their quiver!
